"THE TRUTH BEHIND PROCTER & GAMBLE PRODUCTS"
In a threatening legal letter that was sent recently on behalf of Iams Company, which is owned by the international corporation Procter & Gamble, it was demanded that the Israeli Society for the Abolition of Vivisection
stop its campaigning regarding experiments on animals that the corporation conducts, claiming that the policy of Procter & Gamble "is against product safety testing and any other form of experiments on animals."However, a letter of the company from 30 June 1999 shows the opposite: "...animal testing will only be used when required by law or to evaluate the safety of new ingredients and new-to-the-world products." These new- to-the-world products can be an "improved" washing powder or a new kind of Shampoo.
In the course of "product safety testing" caustic chemicals are forced into the eyes of rabbits, causing them blindness. Many times, in a desperate attempt to escape from the restraining devices into which they are held, the rabbits break their necks. Rats, guinea pigs, and hamsters are forced to swallow various chemicals and new substances are rubbed on their shaved skin. Usually the animals are not given any sedatives or painkillers.
The law does not require doing these experiments. Over 600 international cosmetic and household products companies develop their products without using animals.
We are calling the Israeli public to boycott Procter & Gamble products and its subsidiaries:
Pantene shampoo, Head & Shoulders shampoo, Tampax tampons, Always and All Days panty liners, Ariel washing powder, Pampers diapers, Pringles snacks, Iams cat food, and Eukanuba dog food.
Signed,
In Defense of Animals, the Israel Society for the Abolition of Vivisection, and Uncaged Campaigns
